For those who haven't seen this, Neema Pazargad, head tech at the Colburn School in LA and one of Alan Eder's successful students, was featured in an article in the LA Magazine https://www.lamag.com/culturefiles/colburn-school-piano/  One of the better articles of that sort.

    Congratulations, Neema!

In fairness, the practice rooms at The Colburn School are the nicest I have ever been in. So yeah, a Fazioli, why not?

From my perspective, piano major practice rooms are nearly top priority. Without top notch instruments in top condition, it is impossible to develop truly musical chops (though you can learn to play fast and loud on just about anything).

At UNM, our locked practice rooms have two Shigeru Kawais, a Steinway O, 2 Steinway Ms (well, non-genuine ones, since they have Ronsen and Renner hammers and Abel shanks and wipps), a Yamaha C2 and a Mason BB. We're not as rich as Colburn, but our priority list puts students on top (including quality and care of uprights in practice rooms also).

Dear Fred,  Tragic that I worked for the L.A. Philharmonic located across the street from Coleburn School during its
formative years and at REDCAT(Roy/Edith Disney Cals Arts Theatre) which is, again, across the street from Coleburn
School and live only 41 miles from Coleburn which is close in terms of the distance measured in Los Angeles.  Yet, you
are the one telling me of this wonderful acknowledgment of our friend and colleague Neema Pazargad.  Seems like there
should be a special place inside PTG for such notoriety outside.

    Bravo Neema!

    Thanks, Fred

The photo of Neema at the piano tells me more about him as a technician than any photo of a tech holding a tool. Knowing him, and the quality of his training and work, to me that photo reveals the fact that he truly loves what he is doing.

    Hi-

I'd also like to share a thanks for sharing this article. I forwarded it to our piano faculty because it speaks to our current process of trying to negotiate a selection in Hamburg ourselves. The process is anything but easy or efficient. If anyone here has gone through that in the past few years and is willing to share more details of the experience (off-list perhaps) I would be most grateful.  Basically, they ask for about 1/2 of the entire purchase paid up-front and non-refundable before even making a selection appointment, which typically runs at least 6 months out. That amounts to a serious commitment of resources toward a lot of unknowns.

    regards,
    dennis.

There is quite a waiting list for Hamburg  Steinway  9' and 7' pianos  directly from the factory selection room and until recently all  factory production was presold, Several years ago we purchased 2 Hamburg 9' pianos from Steinway Hall in London so that may still be an option.
