    Dear Friends,
i have recently acquired a Chickering Straight Strung Grand and am looking for information regarding this piano, specifically and in general.  I can not find a serial number, though I know it is likely somewhere under layers of dust.  Any hints on where to look?  The action predates the modern action and is functional and rather clean.  The case is not ornate and has had legs replaced.  I will be looking for period legs.  The case is rosewood.  I appreciate any information, leads and links, and advice.  The plan is to restore the piano and also allow students and faculty to experience the restoration process and perhaps playing and recording.
    Best Regards to you all!

Is it a Brown action? I first came across one when a customer owned an 1890's 9 foot Chickering. It was fun to figure out how it was designed to be adjusted. I think I have a photo somewhere.

Is this the "Brown" action to which you are referring, Susan? I don't know what it is, but this is from my 1893 AB Chase.

Nope, I guess it's not.  What type of action is this?   Clark
