So the university has finally gone into full shutdown mode, meaning I will be stuck at home until at least the end of the month (if not longer), and in an effort to not just burn through all the emergency time off leave made available and actually be productive, I'd like to start developing an intro to piano technology course. Unfortunately there is absolutely no material left behind from previous technicians, so I'll be starting from scratch. Searching the ptg website (a maddeningly user-unfriendly process...) didn't appear to give much information either, although I did find a post from Alan Eder in 2005 referencing a section of the CAUT portion of the site dedicated entirely to course curricula much like the kind I'm looking for... except, of course, that section of the CAUT site is apparently no more, and the material contained therein doesn't appear to exist anywhere else on the current site.

Does anyone (perhaps someone on the current CAUT committee) have any info as to where this material may have gone?

Hmm....... I thought there were some samples of curriculum in one of the libraries found on the caut/home page but, I cannot find them. Perhaps someone on the CAUT Committee can answer your question. Maybe the files did not make it through the PTG site upgrades?

FYI CAUT Committee, the About page on the caut/home site could use some updating.

Please forgive me if this isn't specifically on the exact topic of curriculum. You know about Mario Igrec's book, right?

    Adam,

By Intro to Piano Technology do you mean a course aimed toward pianists who want to learn about their instrument, or a course aimed at students wanting to become piano technicians?

If it is the former, I can send you an outline and other documents for a 3-credit, 10 week course I developed for use at my university.

I do know about Pianos Inside Out - I plan on utilizing it, but was looking more for course structures/syllabi, etc. I've gotten lots of useful info from various techs (thank you especially to Fred Sturm and David Brown), and feel like I've got a much better footing to start off on now.

Alan, this course is definitely going to be geared more towards piano majors learning about their instrument. Fred Sturm included documents from your course in files he sent me, but if there's a chance your files may be more complete, I'd be grateful for the info!

    Hello Alan,

I hope all is going well with you and yours.  Although we are still in total lockdown here at BYU-Idaho, I've started coming back in on a daily basis.  Since the place is deserted, it makes for great access to all the pianos.  I'm also quite behind in reading the ptg list posts, but I noticed your offer to send some materials that you have developed for pianists wanting to know more about their instruments, and I am very interested in this.  Would it be possible for me to receive those materials as well?  if so, it would be much appreciated!

    Regards,
