    Hello everyone,

We are running low on some of our harpsichord wire on campus and the supplier we've used in the past is no more. Anyone have a source that they love?

    Cheers!

    Hi All.

I've done a ton of tuning 2 or more pianos together for recitals or recordings. I usually tune 5 together for the SEPF Gala opening concert every June, but I'm fortunate to not have to do this again, hopefully.  That's a bear where I tune as best I can and have another tech come in to help when the stage is set.

Question: How do you all go about this?

With just 2 identical pianos is easier than more than 2: tune the 2 at A440 and then compare where I may have not done so correctly. (This is if there are 2 identical Steinway D's or something like that)  Sometimes the pianos are spread apart in age and don't always like each other from design changes over the years.

How about more than 2?  Different sizes or brands?  When stage is set and they need the 2 nestled together end to end. I have some coming up and need some advise, please?. Or one is lid off with light prepared stuffs? (we don't allow crazy Cage stuffs) They can bring in their own pianos for that!

    Thanks in advance,

Sorry, I meant to change the subject page. I did change it and headquarter web master told me it wasn't valid!  Anyway, please look at my post.

Zuckermann helped me out. Affordable, friendly, and I found some cool extras.

Hubbard has been unresponsive for a few years (owner Hendrik Broekman has been in ill health, responding to neither phone calls or emails). Harpsichord Clearing House has stepped in to provide Hubbard tongues, at least. Zuckermann has recently been unresponsive as well. Perhaps they have reawakened, but their web pages say last updated in 2019.

Instrument Workshop was unresponsive for a while as well, They seem to have come back, though the supplies offered are much reduced from earlier years. Still, they have a good selection of music wire.

Otherwise, there are still several European suppliers around, in Germany, Italy and England particularly.

I just recently recently restrung and installed a jack conversion kit on
a Zuckermann harpsichord that was originally built from a kit in the 70s.

I got excellent support - both phone and email - from Zuckermann as well
as timely delivery of parts and wire. They have some very good videos on
replacing a string on YouTube as well as videos on installing the jack
    conversion kit.

The email is info@zhi.net and phone is 860-535-1715. Richard Auber is
the main contact there. This link will take you down the YouTube rabbit
    hole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYU2uIT3ml4

Contact Anne Ackers in the Savannah PTG Chapter . She is an expert in early instruments and harpsichords. Maybe she has some spare stock in case the supply chain is slow. Ordering out of country often has its own issues.
