    Hi all,

I know we are all so sick of talking about this! but.... COVID. My college (Dartmouth, NH) has asked me to look into what other colleges and universities are doing in terms of how they are managing piano studios, what practices and protocols are in place, and what cleaning techniques are being used.  Also, if there is any information on this already, what are the success or failure rates of keeping the students safe?

Dartmouth students are back in limited numbers, and still quarantining but due to hit public spaces on the 25th. So far we have stated that we are limiting the use of practice rooms to those who can't practice elsewhere, e.g. only pianists, percussionists, and special cases where recording gear or other in-house instruments are needed. Our small practice suites will not be opened (yet) due to the air handling in what is a standard warren of tiny spaces with 1960s era HVAC. I have cleaning supplies set up in the classrooms where students will be allowed to practice. There are tents set up around campus that singers and wind, brass, etc. can sign out. However, there is a justifiable outcry amongst the students because administration is clinging to rules that ban practicing in dorm rooms, and no one seems to have thought of any other space where our many instrumentalists and singers can work, and those tents are going to be pretty unpleasant in a month or two.

Any commentary on what your university is doing will be very much appreciated. Thanks so much!
