    Hi all,

The trouble with UC voicing isn't just a matter of phase, in my opinion.  When Steinway hammers began to get much more massive, the relationship between the mass of the hammer and string mass begins to be affected.  We're all familiar with how, when a string breaks, the note sounds semi OK if there are two strings remaining, but if it breaks so that only one string is left, the tone is no longer acceptable; there is too great a mismatch between the mass of  hammer and the strings.  Some of that phenomenon can be experienced if the UC is set up to miss the left string, when the hammers are as heavy as they can be these days.
