This is not going to be over for a while, so I think we should still be in damage prevention mode, rather than repair the damage mode.
The one instruction that I most wish I had thought to give out: Spray the cloth, do not spray directly on the keys or finish.
We knew going in that this cleaning would cause damage. The problem was apparent from the start. I said hydrogen peroxide, so they found an alcohol-based cleaner that happened to have a bit of hydrogen peroxide in it. The wipes they have distributed to everyone are alcohol based…
Do what you can to prevent more damage. When this is over, then evaluate and decide what can be done.

Subject: cleaning? piano keys and case??
Hi All,
Are you experiencing the same as I? Students, etc are not cleaning keys at all or using alchohol base cleaning products that are damaging the keytops or case parts?
How to clean them correctly? After the damage is done. Keytops are getting damaged as well as mostly music desks.
We put up hydrogen peroxide cleaning stations all around the school, but the ensemble rooms especially, are getting damage to keytops and music desks, no matter how many signs we put all around the school with many stations set up.
Now damaged, are they toast, or are they buffable?
Thanks
Paul
