I have a Pianotek wood backcheck tool. The site says the narrow end can be used to push in a temperament strip, but I'm wondering if anyone has found any other uses for it or have modified it. Modification would be fairly easy since it's made of wood. Could be fertile ground for a creative TTT submission...

I was thinking it may have been intended as a way to measure backcheck angle (see photo) although admittedly that could be a coincident as angles vary between pianos.

Since the narrow tip is 1/2" deep, it could be used to set black key height.

Any clue as to what the hole through the tool is for? I suppose you could add a small screw and use the hole to make hitch pin loops. You could also use it to take sitings of the sun at sea if your sextant is down for service, but you'd have to add some markings for declination or something. If you're good at making optics you could add a teeny lens but you'd need a prism or the image will be upside down and reversed. Maybe drill another hole and make it binoculars?

The hole is used for punching out center pins of sluggish flanges with a center pin punch and small hammer.Good idea as an angle tool. Thanks.
