Can I use regular bolts on a Moondog Grand Tilter, instead of buying their bolts?

I have a chance to buy a Moondog piano tilter from someone, but they only have the bolt set for a Yamaha Piano. Moondog wants around $300 for a complete set of bolts, and then another $350 for the Steinway attachement set. I am wondering if I can just buy the right size bolts, washer and nut myself and use that instead of spending the $300 on the Moondog set of bolts. That way I only have to buy the Steinway attachement set from them.
Also, does the Moondog work with Mason and Hamlin pianos?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi John,
The best approach to something like this is to contact Moondog (Roger Gable) directly.

    Hi, Jeannie!

    1917 silver-plated Buescher low-pitch...curved, not straight.

I wish I had my Conn contra-bass back....

    Cheers!

    Ms. Grassi,
Jane Ira Bloom or Jay Beckenstein?

    Mr. Burros,
The bitterness of poor quality far outlasts the sweetness of low price😎

Depending upon your tax bracket you're really my paying $650.

Yes, you can use regular bolts.  Since you're receiving a pair of Yamaha bolts with the tilter, you will be able to see what bolt configuration you will need--full length treading, a clamping nut, and so forth.  Ask Google what bolt sizes are provided with the Moondog tilter, and you will be taken to a page on the Moondog site that breaks it down for you.  The ones with the British Whitworth treads might be the trickiest to source, but the rest are more straight-forward.  The Moondog set includes a nice carrying bag.

How much time will this take you, and what is your time worth?  Larry's point that you may be paying with before-tax dollars is also worth taking into consideration.

If I were in your shoes, I might go either way.  As it is, the tilter I use was purchased new with the bolts included, and I'm really happy with the set as supplied.

Thanks for all your replies. They were helpful and I will try and buy the used Moondog that is for sale. I did contact Roger at Moondog and he can sell me the British Whitworth bolts separately. The other bolts are standard so should not be hard to find.

As far as Soprano Saxophones. Back in 1990 I started playing the soprano sax in New York City. My teacher was Paul Cohen at the Manhattan School of Music. He used to write a column about vintage saxophones for the Saxophone Journal. In 1992 I started looking for and then selling all types of vintage saxes. So, I have had in my possession every decent soprano saxphone ever made; Bueschers, Conns, Kings, Martins, Selmers etc. I now play a Yanigasawa soprano made in the early 1990's. At the time it was the best sounding soprano made as I tried all of the new sopranos available by the top makers. The absolute best sounding soprano I have ever played was Paul Cohen's 5 digit serial number Selmer Mark VI soprano made in the late 1950's. Boy, did that thing vibrate when you played it!
