Has anyone ever redesigned a bracket for the muffler arm on a Boston upright?  The plastic one has disintegrated and I'm wondering if wood or metal would last longer.

Surprising that it failed. If I were to guess, I'd vote for a metal replacement, not sure wood would last because of grain angles. I'm wondering what has caused it to fail. Modern plastics seem to last pretty well. Or maybe not?

    Hi, Robert,
Might be fun to design a replacement, but it also might be available from Kawai parts.  It looks like a part I recently got from Kawai.  You might check with Deborah Baker at Kawai, acoustic piano parts department.  dbaker@kawaius.com
The Kawai part is unitized with the cable that extends up to the muffler rail.

Is it the top most piece that the metal cable passes through ? probably failed due to the stresses of the cable/overtight screws ora crack. The design could also be faulty.  a small piece of wood with a slot liked with felt might work or a piece of aluminum bent to allow the cable to move up and down. Whatever you use you will need to prevent cable from making noise. Since Kawai makes the Boston they may be the best source. not a bad idea to order a few for the tool kit

Boston and Kawai are the same, as previously noted by others.  We stock several of those as they are horrible about breaking!  It's just simpler to start over, ya know?
