  • 1.  Cleaner for NY Stwy high gloss lacquer finish?

    Greetings,

    Got a 1989 NY Steinway with a high-gloss lacquer finish. HIgh-gloss polyester cleaner doesn't work. Neither does "Satin Finish Cleaner." (Or, for that matter, Fantastik or isopropyl.)

    This is the only piano I have come across with this type of finish. Anyone able to advise, based on their own experience or that of a known-to-be-reliable source, what cleaning substance will get the job done on this stuff?

    Hi Allan
    Can you provide a picture?

    Conservatively, I tend to go with a pure carnuba  wax. if you want to try to get a little work, I have used 3M Auto rubbing compound as it can cut some grime away. Always test in an inconspicuous area to avoid introducing a Haze. 

    If a haze is already in the finish it can be very difficult to remove or change.

    Alan,

    Occasionally we use Brillianize on finishes that nothing else works on.  Usually helps; to this point has never made things worse.  It is also the best all-around high gloss polyester cleaner and polish that I have found, for the price.
