I spoke earlier today with a valet at the Hyatt Regency hotel. He said the difference in ground transportation between John Wayne airport and Los Angeles [LAX] is about $70. Also that the shuttles cost as much or more than taxi / uber . Also that fares are cheaper going to the airport than from the airport. [probably some sort of airport tax involved]. Even with ground transport being higher, it was cheaper for me to book into LAX, your cost may vary, but something to consider. I will certainly be looking for someone to share a taxi/uber with.
