I have a client who's interested in purchasing an artist-style bench that's big enough for him and his grandson to play duets on. The top of his budget is about $2,000. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Janssen.... you can get parts for them if they break . Beware however that if it is high gloss polyester the legs may squeak and groan issue is the rubbing of the poly against other poly. Easily solved by adding some felt between the leg and the seat frame. Its an easy fix.

Jansen. They won't ever have to buy another.

At NIU we have largely replaced our Jansen benches with either Hidrau Or Discacciati pneumatic  benches. They come in both solo and duet sizes, and except for a few where we needed the top replaced, have been great. A local canvas shop made new leather tops for those.

I second David's suggestion of the Hidrau benches.  That's all I recommend anymore.  Traditional artist benches do not work in some situations as they don't extend high enough.  They are very sturdy and easily recovered from what I see.  In one institution we are going on 6 years of heavy, heavy use with just a few easily tightened screws the only problem.  Once pianists try them they love them.

Does Hidrau make an artist-style duet bench? I'm not seeing one on their website.
