  • 1.  Help with access to a JSTOR resource

    Posted 08-22-2024 16:02

In furthering ongoing research a JSTOR resource looks interesting and important but my Imperial College access doesn't give access to

Schubert: The Piano and Dark Keys on JSTOR

    https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctvg8p1xv

Sadly the author died in 2019 and I haven't been able to track down a copy anywhere else.

I've tried to pay for a copy and JSTOR no can do ….

If anyone might possibly be able to access the book it would be really appreciated

    Many thanks

    best wishes

I did a worldcat search and found it available in the UK here:

For me, the UK sites were the last page
but for you they may appear as the first page.

You should be able to go read it atleast if not borrow it.

I believe the JSTOR is just a review or perhaps more excerpts. I'd have to be on campus to access this, I think. I can ask the librarian there if the UK sources don't work for you.

    Many thanks

It would appear that there are copies at Kings College Library, London, Oxford and Cambridge and Southampton universities and to which I don't have access so if anyone has institutional access to JSTOR it would be of particularly appreciated help

    Best wishes

They won't allow the public access to read onsite?!!!!!!!!!! In the US, in general, you can get visitor access and read onsite, if not allowed to check the books out! I was unable to call up that record at my college's JSTOR online link, but maybe the reference librarian can get me it on interlibrary loan. I'd like to read it myself. If an electronic copy is available, I might be able to send it to you, but it might be against some copyright agreement w/JSTOR.

According to JSTOR it is available from
the listed libraries as an Ebook. You
may be allowed access to one of the UK libraries as a "visitor". Also, check with your university alumni association is you are qualified to use their library resources. If so, have them request and interlibrary loan. Most academic institutions have this option. Some public libraries also allow this if you are a member. So you can ask your local reference librarian for help getting this.

Below is the Jstor record with the various book numbers you might need to request this.

    Thanks

Sadly not available to Imperial College alumni

is a window into the subject.

It's apparent from there, described in words, that there's something to hear but modern tuning has denied us all but the words with which to experience what Schubert appears to have been doing.

The elusive book would appear to delve into the subject appropriately.

Below is the table of Contents, should this wet anyone's appetite.

    Best wishes
