Sandpaper for shaping hammer

    I am looking for the best sandpaper for shaping hammers.
    A while ago there was a post that someone had listed a special type of paper that had a better cut. I hadn't heard of it. You don't see it in most hardware stores. 
    I looked on the archives but couldn't find the post

    No, I Wasn't referring to the film. 
    Some hammers are hard and I need something that cuts for the initial shaping. 
    It was taking forever to get the string groove out and round the tip.

    I believe I was wondering about the backing.
    I Have an abrasive cloth, emery cloth garnet paper, aluminum oxide, 
    The abranet is a mesh and says is dust free. It's a stick on but I could cut it to fit the paddle. 
    Is there a link to an abranet product I didn't see?

    The 100 micron 3M Microfinishing Film cuts REALLY fast. Erwin's Pianoforte Supply sells it as part of a kit with 4 different grits in it.  It's a lot more aggressive than the coarser of the two strips that came in the older sets.

    I glue it to my paddle with UHU adhesive. Cuts fast, however it does clog up a bit in this application and needs to be vacuumed out on softer felt. Hard felt may not clog as much. For the most part I like it. I have other grits of paper as well, but my initial shaping is done with the Abranet paddle.

    Doesn't using it on a paddle kind of defeat the purpose? It's got holes in it to keep it from blocking up...

    Bummer!! Well I could see Abranet being promising -- I've used it for wood turning and it's great stuff. I just haven't gotten my hands on big enough pieces of it to use for strip filling of hammers...

    I get Abranet belt sander loops from Lee Valley Tools and cut then into strips.
