The other tuner called me to look at this piano, It might be made by Young Chang. The owner said it was 31 years old and was Korean.
The notes are blocking and he was setting letoff to make it work.  it was getting worse going into the treble. Drop was really tight.
I will see the piano on Monday. The Piano Atlas only shows up to 1996 and that Baldwin made them from 1990 - 1994. It doesn;t say who made them the last 2 years.
Who would I talk to at Young Chang?
    Thanks in advance

The action brackets that were a problem were used in grand pianos from about 1990 To 1999, Serial numbers 90,000 to about 106,000.

    Thanks Wim,
I guess I have to contact YC and see if that's their action.

There are a number of brands with expanding action brackets and the serial number range often cited may not be totally correct. So far I have replaced brackets on Young Changs, Weber, Wurlitzer, PianoDisc and even a Pramberger YC . The early replacement brackets where free or low cost when you provided a serial number to YC and at one time where part of a recall program. The last several sets I have purchased have been from Supply 88 and are excellent. You will need to measure the existing brackets to get the proper size replacements. You may need to drill in order to screw the replacements onto the action frame and you will need to measure and reset the action ratio.  You might not be able to see the cracks on the metal but look for bubbles /blisters, hairline cracks, crumbled pieces etc.

You may need to do a bit of regulation to the action and undo changes made before . Take pictures before diving in.  Some older pianos prior to the YC piano had expanding brackets Contact me privately if you need help

    James,

Ever had to do it on a Hazelton grand? Would this serial number: IJNGG0195 fit in to the timeframe?  Just curious. Just got a call.

How old is the Hazelton ? is it a YC product ? I will look at my Atlas and info on action brackets. I do not recall doing brackets on that name . However have the owner or tech take some pictures

    Peter

The serial number indicates it was made in 2004 by Samick in Indonesia. That was about when Young Chang and Samick were trying to merge. And I think they owned the Hazelton name. So perhaps there were some left over brackets from YC that they put in those pianos. Who knows.
