    Greetings,
When installing tenor damper felts on grand pianos, starting after the wound bass strings: how many or up till which note do we need to use tri-chord felts?
Many different manufacturers have many different methods: up till G4, C4 to name a few, both front and rear felts tri-chord felts or front tri-chord felts and rear a flat treble damper felt.
Am I correct in assuming that a tri-chord felt has better dampening properties as it wedges in between the strings?
Seems to me as if there's not really a right or wrong way, so, which might be the preferred way and why?
    Thank you,
    Peter

This was discussed many years ago, and the late, great, Ron Nossaman said, "do what works". There are no secrets, no standard way, not set rule for damper felts. You can start with duplicating what's on the piano, but if that doesn't work, change it.
