I recently came across a 1904 Mason & Hamlin grand with a broken agraffe (single string). The stem diameter is .280. Nobody seems to have one this large. Mike Collins at M&H in Haverhill and the guys at Pianotech are suggesting I use an insert and tap it to a smaller diameter but before I go that route I wonder if anyone has any of these sitting around their shop. Any help would be appreciated.

Coming to this very late, sorry about that.

If there is anyone in the world who has such an agraffe, it would probably be Isaac Sadigursky.  The good news is that he is a good soul and extremely helpful.  If you have not gone another route, contact Isaac.

Hey I am looking for similar agraffes for an 1887 Mason & Hamlin. Were you able to find any?

Before you plug and tap, check to see if they are metric.  Many M&H agraffes are, the metric ones sold by Pianotek may fit.

Thanks, Kenneth. Sorry, how do I tell if it's a metric agraffe?

I also came across this thread that mentioned pianotek replacements. Sounds doable, but would require some expert drilling and custom fitting.

If there is anyone near Mountain View, CA that can help me with this, it would be much appreciated :).
