    Hi all,

I think it's time for me to look into punching storage again. I've been using a plastic tackle box that came with my big tackle box (which I use for all my field repair tools except my stringing stuff), which stays in my car. I have all my tools sorted by job, and am very happy with it all these years later. However, the little box has individual containers but they don't go all the way up to the lid, and the punchings move around within a matter of days. I've been using this for the past six years, but I've finally had enough and am ready to replace it.

I'm thinking to maybe try a pill sorting box?

What do you use for storing your punchings and keeping them separated?

    Hi Ben,

I had the same problem and solved it by cutting out a piece of felt that fit on the inside of the lid. That sealed off the empty space and keeps all the punchings where they belong. Hope this helps you too.

I use the same thing as you but put a piece of squishy styrofoam packing material, cut to fit, on top of the compartments before I close the lid.  It keeps them in place and is thin enough to still allow the lid to close.

    Hi Benjamin,

I use a similar type of box where the compartments are not quite flush with the lid. I insert a thin styrofoam sheet under the lid and that does the trick. It’s the type sometimes found in packaging but very commonly used in fruit boxes. Ask at the produce dept and they likely will have some extras around. It’s maybe 1/16th inch thick and compresses to fit and fills the gap so thin punchings don’t move around.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice! I stopped by the craft store earlier today and got a piece of felt with sticky stuff on the back of it. Cut it to size and inserted on the top of the container, as well as on the bottom so the punchings don't move around underneath the dividers. Then I reloaded it (had to dump everything out, it was jumbled so badly, and spent an hour sorting punchings). To test, I then turned the container upside down several times. All the punchings stayed in their respective bins!

This seems to work, at least for the moment. We'll see how it holds up in the future. Thanks again!
