Dale said no one has the B 72. He says you can get nitrocellulose lacquer from Mohawk in 5 gallons. He has some but shipping it is the problem. I'm close enough to drive there.
I asked him how he voiced his Abel Americana hammers and he said they were a little dark and he juiced all the shoulders.
Of course then, he said the real lesson is when the head of Stan State music dept refused to let Dale juice a new set of hammers. He tried,,, then 5 years later she called him for a voicing and tuning. I quote Dale, "it was the most gorgeous sounding piano I had heard. I did some needling and that was it."
He also said most people don't have the patience to wait for the hammers to firm up through playing. I believe in letting the hammers voice in naturally. It keeps the a longer length of the internal spring of the hammer. Too firm of hammers is why Chris C pushes the spritz method of voicing. Too many rebuilders over juice or use hard hot press hammers.
I'm seeing where my not doing anything to the hammers because of lack of experience was the right thing to do. I have 2 wurzen felt and 2 weikert felt jobs that are gorgeous.

Thank you Keith. I have plenty of lacquer, it’s my favorite , I just wanted to try the b72 to see if I liked it, mostly for the speed.
Pianotek has the lacquer in quarts, no problems shipping.

Dale said Pianotec stuff stinks and the odor lingers. It's what they call hammer lacquer but it's not real nitrocellulose

I use Pianotek's Pianolac all the time, I believe it is nitrocellulose lacquer but it doesn't have the hardeners typically found in industrial lacquer that tend to make it dry too hard and brittle. So it tends to dry with a somewhat more flexible character which is a benefit tonally. It does babe a lacquer smell but once it dries I don't sense any residual odor

David yes I have been very happy with Pianotek’s lacquer. They do claim it is the same as what Steinway uses. I like it best when cut with lacquer thinner, seems to achieve that that sound that makes me happy! But, I am willing to try the B72 for when overnight drying is inconvenient. Have you tried it?
