Does anyone use a product other than Protek CLP for sluggish center pins, such as for the common Kimball action centers? Just curious.

My go to treatment for centers that are in good condition but too tight is VS Profelt.  Soak and let dry overnight.

Try my Ethyl Silly Nap. Its based on what was used in the past except i made a couple improvements. I use it exclusively now and others report back to me they love it too. You make it yourself for pennies.

When I first started in the business in the early seventies, I worked for a Wurlitzer dealer.  This solution of VMP Naptha and silicone oil was recommended to me by a Wurlitzer factory technician.  They were having an issue at the time with sticky action centers on some of the new instruments which I believe was due to the bushing cloth not being properly sized.  The naphtha is a solvent for the silicone oil which carries it into the bushing cloth and then flashes off.  I would be curious to know what the ethyl acetate is for since it seems to be more in the line of a solvent than a lubricant.   Also, because I usually treat sticky action centers by heating the action in a "hot box" with a hair dryer and ethyl acetate is cautioned for its flammability, do you think this might pose a problem?  Note, naphtha is flammable as well and I've never had even littlest explosion with it.

What Naptha can't clean the EA usually does, so they compliment each other. In shop experiments EA had good effect on light Vertigris. And because of its properties it assists in removing moisture from the felt. I have used ESN and applied a heat directly to the center pin and no explosion, so i think your'e ok. But to be safe, i would use ESN after the hotbox.

The stuff works quite well. I used it on a nicely frozen verdigris action last week and it freed right up in seconds. Now...how long it will last remains to be seen (I'll be seeing it again in a week or two and assess). But so far every action center I've used it on has responded well.

I am experimenting with a number of promising products. If successful I will write a journal article and name names and results. Early on in my business I purchased and industrial machine to dispense glues and lubricants in precise doses and locations. I need to get back to using it but my idea was to assist in applying precision amounts of CA to pinblocks, bridges, cracks, broken parts without making a mess and reducing fume exposure. The same machine can dispense lubricants and the tips can reach some very hard to get areas like whippen center pins & flanges
