I use the Hart voicing tool almost every day, and now for the second time the needle has broken off flush with the opening of the tool, and is jammed in there so I can't get the broken shank of the needle out. The last time this happened, I just bought a new tool, but with shipping and everything they ain't cheap. I considered drilling through the hole from the side, but I don't have a bit that small and I'm worried I'd mess up the very very tiny allen threads in the brass. Has anyone had any success dealing with this, or know of how to contact the manufacturer about it?

Or, just make your own tool with a wooden (not bamboo) chopstick. Hold a needle tightly with pliers, make a hole in the center of the small end of the chopstick with the needle, pull it out, cut needle to length, put a drop of CA in the hole, insert the cut end of the needle, maybe another drop of CA at the top of the hole, and you’re done!

I haven’t owned a Hart voicing tool for years because the set screw being so small that the allen key to fit the screw head is so small and weak that the hexagonal corners always get sheared off, leaving no way to tighten nor loosen the screw.

The Hart spring tool, however, is indispensable!
