After 12 years my Metro Vac n Bio bit the dust. That thing was great while it lasted. It's quadrupled in price since I bought it then. I think the toggle switch is broken, and I'd love to have it repaired, and their website offers repairs if you send it to them, but I called local retailers the website recommend and got bizarre, clearly malicious off-shore companies. Any recommendations repairing this one or on another vacuum that is powerful and also blows as well as sucks?

If you think it's the switch, that should be quite easy to test with a multimeter.  I'd start there.  It looks quite simple to remove.
They do sell replacement switches on their website: https://metrovac.com/collections/cords-switches/replacement-parts

(edit) Also, congrats on the best discussion title in recent memory ;)

Thanks, Nathan. I took it apart, and you were right, it was easy to remove the toggle switch, and I ordered another one from their website. I'll let you know if it works once I reinstall it.

Last year my Vac n Blow rolled off a piano bench and landed on the switch.  It wasn't very old - just a year or two.  It was pretty clear that the switch was damaged because the next time I plugged it in, smoke started to come out of the switch.  I think I actually got a replacement switch at Home Depot - I just brought the old one to make sure that the dimensions were the same.  It's working fine now, and I'm very careful to place it on a folded towel or similar to keep it from rolling.

It is an excellent vacuum, worth the dramatically inflated price.

I hope your repair is successful.

What are you doing putting your vac on the client's bench? Oh, the shame!

By the way this discussion made me finally buy one. I've been very happy with my Simplicity Sport, but this one has twice the HP and has a reputation for being quieter.

    Looking forward to comparing it!

I love mine. I've replaced the switch, added a longer larger cord and made and attached some feet that I covered with action cloth. Had for over 10 years and loved it. Cord is approximately 25 feet long. I can put it on anything without scratching it.
