Has anyone been able to buy NY Steinway shanks and repetitions recently?
I can’t find them in their catalog (only Hamburg,) and calls and emails directly to Steinway have not been answered.

    Thanks,

    Joe Wiencek

Go with WNG. It's like they say, "Once you go black..."

Steinways now owns Renner so one could make the argument that buying Renner parts is buying Steinway parts. It's not like Steinway wasn't using Renner parts before anyway.

    Benjamin,
True, though previous NY Steinway parts utilized different woods and shaping of the shanks. Hamburg always used Renner parts to my knowledge. Renner USA is not even taking orders for Steinway type shanks and reps currently due to backlogging. I suspect Steinway is controlling Renner’s Steinway parts output on a tight leash, though that is purely speculative, with no direct evidence.

Other than gen-u-whine S&S parts; you have the option of Tokiwa, Abel and WNG.

It looks like S&S is directing parts orders to these suppliers.

Renner sold me a lovely set of shanks and flanges, "Original", to fit the 1887 Steinway C. Back ordered for four months, but then there they were, immaculate. Small knuckle, shorter distance to the center pin, as promised.

In this salt-air environment, I've found that graphite treated bushing cloth becomes sluggish or seizes up after playing. Also Renner shanks develop a twist after a year and require rehanging many hammers and extensive burning-in. To a lesser extent with Tokiwa and Abel. I'm hopeful that the WNG parts will not be affected by the humidity here.  I've had no delays in ordering parts from WNG.

Jon, you make me glad that the ocean is 52 miles away, and the humidity here is very modest and agreeable.
