    Greetings,

I have been asked to service an 1860 Bosendorfer. That is all of the information I have about the piano until I see it.

Does anyone know what pitch this should be tuned too?

    Best,

    Alan

Tune it to whatever pitch the customer prefers :-) In 1860, the French had adopted 435 as the "diapason normal" (standard pitch), but the Germans and Austrians never went along), tending to stick to 440 and higher (standard for the Vienna Phil is 443, but one hears they often play as high as 447).

Ed Swenson's web site, www.mozartpiano.com, has a helpful list of pitch correlated with dates and cities.  It's a good resource for exactly this kind of question.
