Any theories?  Is something rolling back and forth, in and out of a position where it obstructs dampers??  Where?

    Maybe case side(s) are loose?

I would check the key bed, especially any shims or wedges that attach the keybed to the plate.  Also, it has been demonstrated that because upright pianos have four wheels, an uneven floor can stress the structure of the piano and even affect the tuning.  There's more pressure on one wheel than the others.  I second the theory that the sides or other case parts could be loose.  Also look at the studs under the action brackets to see if they are tight.  Just take hold of the brackets and push/pull them to see if they move.  If they do, you need to raise the studs.  Don't go too far or you won't be able to remove the action.

Your video does a great job of letting us hear the change in damping but it shows us nothing about what is physically going on. Have you watched the dampers move. Do they lift differently when the piano has been moved from one position to the other? Does the pedal still move the same distance, up and down, in both positions? Have you pulled the piano away from the wall far enough to see what may be causing that point of resistance in moving the piano? Like, is it rolling over something or is there a hole in the floor that traps one of the wheels. Have you opened up the bottom panel to watch what may be changing in the pedal trapwork as you move the piano?

Geoff makes a lot of great points. This is probably not a DIY fix. The owner needs to call a piano technician who is within a 10 mile radius, not talk to someone 1,000 miles away.
