    Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried to install some kind of dolly on this piano without front legs. I think there is a reason why there are no casters.
I tried contacting Yamaha yesterday but now with the chat online w/ and agent, I never got through and was "waiting time", until I gave up.

I don't it is possible but just thought to check if anyone had some kind of idea how to keep it safely balanced on something on casters or dolly. I looked at vendors and it does not look promising.

    Thank you

Twin Dollies, available from Schaff or Jansen. Use 2" lag bolts to attach to the back and the bottom. They do stick out of the back and front, but they only lift the pedals about 2"

    Thank you Wim.

I have installed those on uprights with no problem but I'm still a little nervous with so little front space but will.

    Victor,

I just did a dolly installation on a Yamaha U1 last week.  The U1 I worked on was an older model without the front legs, and it's pretty similar to the P2 in your photo.

Like Wim says, the dolly wheels sit outboard of the bottom footprint of the actual piano.  I thought like you that the dollies would make the piano unstable, but those worries turned out to be unfounded.

The dollies do not come with screws, which is a real nuisance.  I happened to have some #12 wood screws lying around (1.5 inches long) that worked out perfectly in the end.

    Thank s Chris,

Your piano has casters, mine does not and has a little more space but I will take a closer look next time I see it.

    Best,

Victor, as Wim says, the lighter weight dollies will work. The bottom board is narrow, you might have to bore your own holes in the dolly so they come up in a convenient place on the piano. I through-bolt dollies to the bottom boards. You have to check ahead to make sure you clear the trap work.

You are correct the dollies will raise the pedals quite a bit as the cabinet was designed to essentially be resting on the floor.

Another option is to attach 'outriggers' to the sides of the piano. You would have more control over the pedal elevation.

    Thank you Stephen,

That makes sense, and yes my thought was to bolt at the bottom too.

    Will give it a try.

    Interesting that you mention Jansen.

They do not want the twin dollies depicted here on any piano except a spinet.  The retail stores are being told this.  Jansen now asks certain people and retailers what make and model to make sure the larger twin dollies are installed.  I order the small dollies from Schaff to avoid Jansen if possible.  I know the smaller dollies are fine.

    I suspect lawyer involvement.
