  • 1.  Yellow Teflon bushings?

    Has anyone seen this before?  1970 Steinway L. One would expect all Teflon bushings. Interestingly, the bushings in the whippen are a mixture of white (spring) and yellow (lever), and yellow (jack and flange). The hammer flange at first glance appears to be "yellow" Teflon, however it is actually yellow cloth (zoom in).  

    So, I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this concoction of bushings in a Steinway...ever! This is a first for me. 

    Edit: Hoping someone somewhere knows something about something...

    never saw this however was it teflon converted to cloth and yellow used for the changeover ? Did S&S supply kits to do this ? It must have been a time consuming job to remove teflon and rebush. Glad I missed that train. I have only seen a few L s with Teflon and none have clicking/noises/problems. One is in a church where it get quite a bit of use.

    And this one works quite well too, although there is a ton of lead in the keys, I think due to the fact that the center pin to knuckle core is 15.5mm making it a pretty high leverage action. 

    I have no idea about history. There are numbers hand written on the shanks as if someone did some extensive work. I just don't know precisely what they mean. And I've NEVER seen yellow bushings before (hard or soft).
