I've never tried vinegar on wax. I do use it for other cleaning jobs. Years ago when I worked in a custom photo lab we used acetic acid for cleaning and degreasing metal surfaces before mounting prints on them. Wear gloves and ventilate if you use strong stuff but it worked very well. ---Dave On May 15, 2012, at 2:44 PM, Paul Bruesch wrote: > > > Yes, it hardens it (and I think it seems to shrink it a bit) so it > snaps/scrapes off more easily. Hi again,

I was actually out of vinegar, so I used the mineral spirits. It worked like a charm. I used it veeeeerrrry sparingly and cleaned off the surface immediately.  Took fingerprints off that area really well too. I don't think I want to rub the whole thing down this way to clean up the rest of it, but interesting that it worked on that too.

    Thanks all!

    Paul

    Just for clarification, Paul.

Mineral spirits ... is that the actual product name one would find at the local Ace hardware store, or rather some paint store like Sherwin-Williams?
