Hi, Jon.
Thanks for your suggestion.
There are a few reasons I don't want to replace the nosebolts.
First, the customer. This is a family heirloom and the siblings are
all in on the cost.
Second, I like this style bolt because it is much easier to get
fine adjustments, and you don't have to go under the piano
to turn it. Very precise.
Third, I don't really want to disturb the holes more than necessary,
and a replacement may not be exactly the same. If smaller, I would
need to drill out and plug the holes.
Also, there will be no extras for later. If I can't use them now, I
probably wont ever be able to.
The truth is that I may be forced to replace, but I am determined
to try my best to find a good nut. Surely someone has one nut
salvaged from a divested piano.
Thanks again for the suggestion. I always appreciate your posts.

Why not replace it with the modern one? Replace all of the nose bolts and then you'll have extras for the next time :-)

Anybody have an orphan or extra?
