Hi All, 
I'm looking for help estimating the value of this piano. It was in this families possession for 4 generations and was totally destroyed in the latest Largest fire in California History. I have at latest count at least 7 customers who lost everything. 
 
Steinway has told me that the piano was made in 1926 and shipped raw to Aeolian for the player installation and that that is were it was probably painted.
Is any one aware of any Aeolian archives or records pertaining to these pianos.
Or some one with expertise evaluating this art. 

Any help would be appreciated to help these unfortunate folks.

Probably will have a hard time putting a value on it since I would think lots would depend on the condition the piano was in as well as the player unit. Was the piano playable and maintained with regular tunings, regulation ? same goes with the player unit . If it was perhaps having service records from those that did work on it over the years may help. If it was a display or art object chances are high the player deteriorated over the years. Maybe someone had an appraisal done in its history ? There must be someone in the country that may have knowledge of these instruments . Try contacting the Antique Piano Shop in Tennessee since they seem to have a wide range of instruments and knowledge.
Was there more than one picture taken by the photographer reflected in the mirror ?

Dennis,

How did they have it insured? Simply as a part of their overall belongings, with replacement value, or depreciated value, or a special valuable items policy with replacement value? Or something else entirely?

This place may have some idea of the value since he seems to have many art case pianos on his web site.
There are probably a number of other art case restorers/rebuilders so this may be a good starting point.

Hopefully they had some form of insurance rider/special replacement/high value item insurance with an appraisal. If not them maybe previous members did. Having gone through insurance claim process myself I can tell you that they may be wise to have public insurance adjuster working on their side. Most insurance companies do not like to pay claims and want you to take a quick settlement..Pictures, receipts, moving company records from piano movers used in the past may help build a case for determining a value
