    Thanks for posting Ed,

It appears to be a strange and dangerous way to have a bit of fun but that's the story of most old uprights these days.
The owner of the old upright rests in peace in the graveyard and their old upright pianos rests in pieces in the smash yard.

The piano push picnics went on for a few years, but have been over for quite a while. It is a big project and we are all too old now!! Some or you may recognize a few of our Midwest dearly departed.

The filming stopped in the early nineties.

    Glad you enjoyed it.

Once the smooth concrete floor of John Dewey's barn/Coliseum was clear and the casters were all oiled and tightened: the teams were chosen, and the KlavierKrashers were born! Let the kinetic energy free!!!

I love the name Klavier Krashers. Not to take away from the post but there was and still may be an event held at MIT each year known as The Piano Drop. I believe you can find some videos on YouTube. The gist of it is they launch a piano off the roof of a dorm using a ramp system that they rig up so the piano clears the building. The landing zone is taped off and when the dust settles students are free to go pull off souvenirs. There is a countdown like on New Years Eve Times Square

Back in the day we had a demo derby track in Norwood Mass. It was insane the last man and car standing won the prize. Most of the time the cars drove in reverse so the radiator and steering could survive. It could get quite brutal since cars had real steel and bumpers that did not get crushed. Hearing protection was highly advised since mufflers fell off constantly. I think they also did something like a car jump using a ramp to launch and another yo land on with the object of clearing wrecks parked side by side.
