Ernest Snell Preuitt was born January 30, 1911, in Higginsville, MO, to Cleve and Bessie Coe Preuitt. He had two brothers and one sister, Clyde, Francis, and Genevieve Moser Curran. He spent his childhood years in Higginsville and graduated from Higginsville High School. In 1930 he married Margaret Piepmeyer and they had four children: DeMaye, Sheilia, John and Raymond. They spent the early part of their marriage in Higginsville where Ernie, as he was known, worked at various jobs. In the 1940s they moved to Kansas City, MO. Ernie was very active in his community and served as the President of the Piano Technicians Guild and taught many young people the skill of piano tuning. He was very instrumental in moving the national headquarters of the PTG to Kansas City, MO. He also represented the national PTG with trips to Japan and several other oriental countries. He was a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple for over 50 years where he played tuba in the concert band, the Shrine Circus, various parades and many other community events. Ernie loved gardening from vegetables to his award winning roses. He was a member of the Men's Garden Club of Kansas City where he held the position of Master Gardener. He was a past president of the Jackson County Rose Society and the Clay County Rose Society. He truly enjoyed rose show competition where he certainly excelled. His rose awards, including many, many blue ribbons and trophies, are just too numerous to mention. The name Ernest Preuitt was certainly synonymous with beautiful roses in the rose gardening community. In 1952 he married Louellyn Handy and they were married until her death in 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Clyde and Francis, and his sister, Genevieve; his two wives, Margaret and Louellyn, and one daughter, DeMaye DeForest. He is survived by his children, Sheilia (Sissy) and Billy Haines of Walnut, CA, John and Marlyne Preuitt of Independence, MO, and Raymond and Rita Preuitt of Lebanon, TN, and Bob DeForest of Paola, KS. In addition to his four children, Ernie had 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 32 great-great grandchildren. Ernie had a long, productive, and, until the last year, healthy life. In January he celebrated his 100th birthday with his family and friends from all parts of the United States. (Arrangements: DW Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, 816- 252-8900.) D
