Anybody have any insight into this piano?
The owner thought this is 1852 but it has an overstrung scale. I'm thinking 1882
I can't match up the wippen. the schwander style action has the wippen and jack pin on the same line but has a separate rest cushion.
How would you make a rest cushion?
I'm hoping one of the replacement jacks from Schaff will work. Then I only need 2 new wippens
The agraffes on the bridge is different than I've seen. The damper upstop rail is on the front where a sostenuto would be.
I'm guessing hammer and flanges were replaced

Do you have a serial number ? Is the jack toe broken off and not repairable ? I needed a whippen for a Knabe and got one that worked from Brooks LTD.
Agraffes on the bridge ? seems unusual . Not sure what you mean by a rest cushion since on a grand it should be a rebound cushion so hammer shank hits it ut should be off of it at rest, You may just have to swap out the whip from note 1 and 88 . I think I have seen hammer flanges like this on an old Connover

No serial number that can be found.
    Yes of course rebound cushion.
Most of the whips from schaff need a rebound rail.
    I'll check Brooks.

Pianotek has several whippens with the rebound cushion - Steinway Style, Mason & Hamlin, Yamaha but I think Brooks is also worth trying

I have worked on several of these old square grands and have never seen one manufactured as late as the 1880's.  I thought they discontinued making these by the time of the war between the states (civil war), but I could be wrong.

    It's not a square. It's a 6 and a half foot grand.
Overstrung scale and a flat plate raised an inch by a wood rim piece. The plate is NOT bubbled,
Sorry I thought I took an over all pic.
When did they STOP using the agraffes on the bridge?

Here are some pics of a 40 D that's dated around 1900. Very similar cabinet except that the feet on the legs are round and yours look oblong.

I have worked on an HD vertical with an agraffe bridge that was from 1884.

    Thank you Steve.
I will look for the number between the bass and tenor.
