The base of this harpsichord is removable, so moving the instrument around in the shop isn't very easy.  Can't work on it yet because I'm waiting for parts, the customer is looking for them--ahem.  Anyway, I came up with a way to move it so I could set up my shop space to work on something else.

I had a set of smallish casters and just used some scrap 1" x 3" and 1" x 2"s.  I glued and bolted or screwed the uprights on the base and used key bushing cloth to line the channels.

Hi, Barb, I don't know if Israel Stein might be on this list, but suggest that you contact him. They have a very interesting and compact device for moving smallish harpsichords around at San Francisco State. Israel might be able to send you plans or pictures. Kind regards. Hi, Horace

I'm here... Good to know you are too...

Attached are 6 photos of our harpsichord mover at SFSU - built by Tom Winter (formerly one of the techs here and now happily building fortepianos...) I hope they make clear how it works and how it's stored... We also use it as an action transporter and as a mobile workbench

Most cool. > Good to know you are too... These days, I'm mostly lurking on the lists. After three months, there's still a (not small) set of problems with my subscriptions to some of the forums, and, as I'm easily confused, it seems simpler to hide in the darker recesses of IT-dom. Thanks for those pictures. I've always thought that that cart was one of Tom's genius inventions...so usable for so many things. Are we still on for the 14th? I may not study all night on the 7th, but I rather suspect I'll be having both blintzes and cheesecake.... Shabbat Shalom.
