    John,

I have attached a couple of pics of my german hammer head extracting
pliers. They are great, as you don't have to do any effort to remove the
heads (no need to break the glue collar either). Plus, with these you dont
need to worry about breaking a hammer head or a shank, as you can adjust
the "depth". I paid around 80 EUR (approx 55 GBP).

You can buy it from www.baumgaertel-pianoteile.de

    Regards,

    Patrick

Yes, Patrick, this certainly looks a good solid tool and I'd guess
even nicer to use than the type I have mentioned and just as
powerful. Thanks for the pointer. Since I use Baumg?rtel for nearly
all my supplies and am getting a big delivery just this week, I
surprised I have missed it in their catalogue! I must have another
    look this evening.

Do you have any idea how much it costs? It doesn't give you any way
to find out as far as I could see!
Is there a larger picture available?

I've now had a look at my Baumgaertel catalogue and it doesn't seem
to be there. Catalogue No. 50050 (light model - Euros 54.65) is very
different and no others are listed . I must ask them whether they
    still supply this model.

    John,

It's actually a new model so that's why is not in their catalogue, but in
their latest pricelist is article number:

50073	Hammer shank extractor for Grand Piano+Upright**, heavy
    duty pc.	84,45	@
**By using for Upright Hammers, the heads will be punched

    84.45 EUR (approx 58 GBP)

They also do two other more expensive types but I think this one is the
    most effective.

...plus the dreaded 16%, of course :-) Thanks for the number. I
see it's in my price list but was not sure if this was the one. I
    wrote to them this morning.

    >	**By using for Upright Hammers, the heads will be punched

By this they mean, in English, that it can only be used to extract
upright piano heads that are bored all the way through (eg. Lipp) and
not that the apprentice will be severely punished if he tries to use
    the tool on uprights :-)
