For those who don't want to spend over a thousand dollars for something so simple. i offer this design for a DIY Piano Tilter. I used a 4 x 4, a 2 x 4, and 1/2" plywood.  Its all glued, screwed, and doweled together. I will be using it soon and will post pictures after the next move and show it in use.

Well, the titler worked awesome on its maiden voyage. In Fact, now I got a name for it "The Earth Cat". Because its so down to earth and i like cats. Anyways, It easily handled a Mason and Hamlin BB.  Tilted onto a folded moving pad, which allowed it to hold the bass up high enough to allow us to put on the final leg. So easy and it cost less than a hundred dollars to make. ufQeQMVLQPCmsfa4WrSj_mandhdelivery 025.jpg

Not everyone is going to be happy with your drilling holes in the bottom of their piano. Plus, there's clean up after the holes are drilled.

Before Glyndebourne built a new Opera House I was obliged to store the Pit grand on its spine outside the Pit area. The Pit doors were too narrow to allow moving a Grand in or out any other way. This meant removing the Bass leg and Lyre and wheeling it in and out on the Pit dolly. Two people only were needed for this AND one Grand Piano Raiser - rather like an over-grown car jack - as you know. This was used to raise the Bass end of the keyboard in order to remove the leg and Lyre. We would then gently lower the piano, make it vertical and slide the Dolly under the spine to wheel it into or out of the pit. So I cannot see the use for this cumbersome DIY device and its need to be physically attached to the piano by screws.

I certainly wouldn't allow anyone to drill holes in my S&S 'A'

And I don't like cats - they make a mess in my garden (which our window cleaner complains about) and chase the birds and squirrels away. The squirrels make a bee-line for our huge Oak tree where they race up the trunk and, clinging on up-side down, crouch there all a-quiver growling and hissing at the cats.       Michael    UK

My favorite grand tilter is the "Piano Horse" that was sold by Jansen. Apparently, it's no longer available but I use mine on every grand move. It's worked on every grand I've moved except for AMPICO players with drawers. It requires no bolts or screws, no removal of the lyre and no crawling under the piano. A superb design.

And one person is able to use the Piano Horse.  An army is not needed to use it.

    Interesting design concept Chris.
Wonder if you could retro a Steinway leg lock onto it.

    Keep up the innovative thinking.

    Thank you Gerry,
Yes, it could be modified any way you wish. If putting on a Steinway lock use hardwood as the top piece, then rout away.
I personally don't mind drilling two small holes for attaching the one I have now. After all people put holes under pianos all the time ( Damp chaser installs, piano Mation installs, keyboard shelf for tone regulating, microphone holders etc.).
I normally tilt onto the lyre, but with the BB being such a beast, (and I loaded it up myself) having this diy tilted was added comfort.
