    Hello,
Can anyone with "first hand knowledge" (please, I've moved thousands of grand pianos, and have  never removed any casters with this set-up before), tell me how to remove the large size brass casters (with no visible screw heads on the kingpin socket) from the socket?  (See pic.)  I really need to get this customer's new (second owner) piano (which they bought from me) onto a spider dolly ASAP.  So, if anyone can tell me what the "trick" is, to removing the caster without risk of damaging the large brass wheel carriage casting, I'd be eternally grateful.  (After contacting the importer, the only thing Pal-Sound could suggest is "It can be done. Ask your local piano mover."  .... which, of course, is ... dut ... dut ... dut ...ME!) 😜

    Thanks for your time,
    Richard

PS .... I have no problem with beating on it with a large screwdriver and hammer .... but I'd also like to know, for sure, that this will not break the casting, before I do that.

    Richard,
You need to purchase a spanner wrench. Notice the notch area on the base plate. There will be another notch on the opposite side. The caster will unscrew easily.

    Thanks Roger!

I was hoping for an easier "trick"  but the spanner wrench makes perfectly good sense.  Do you happen to know if an appropriately sized spanner wrench is available from LOWE'S or Harbor Freight .... or is this a special tool, only available from the Young Chang factory  (and maybe a few Korean owned 7-11's on the West Coast) ?

(When I posted this question, I was thinking to myself [([([( ... I bet Roger Gable would know EXACTLY what to do .... he and Eric have probably moved more Concert Grand pianos on and off stages than anyone in the USA!!! ... ])])])])

BTW ....Your "Odorless/ Non-Flammable Brake Cleaner fix" for Steinway action verdigris problems, coupled with some snow shovel ice release spray-on teflon, has allowed me to fix three absolutely useless Model 40's, and save those customers some serious money ... and it COMPLETELY fixed my 1923 Model O at home!  I asked the local guild members if they'd like me to put on a demonstration ... but nobody seemed too interested (ha ha  ha ...ugh)  It really is a good fix though.

    Double Thanks,

    Richard C
