    I tell people, if the pianos needs tuning after the move, it needed tuning before the move. The move does not affect the tuning, unless it sits in a hot/cold truck for hours. It's the change in environment which causes things to drift, not the actual move itself.

    Theoretically, because the weight can be distributed differently on four points if, say, the floor is not level. The idea being that it tweaks the frame somewhat.  But, honestly, I don't think I've ever seen it happen.

    The torsion introduced to the case by the unlevel floor would cause it to 'go out of tune' but not to the extent that anyone other than a tuner with an ETD could tell the difference.  You can experiment by lifting either end of the keybed with your leg, or slip a shim under the caster. The three-position support of a grand does not induce this torsion to the case.

    I've had a couple of instances (el cheapo spinets) where the bass section would go noticeably out instantly with a change of pressure on the front left leg. Even just lifting it with my knee. Calls for very even balancing of them. I always advise accordingly.

    The only  regular occurence of this  was with a fortepiano that did go wildly out of tune when moved  on stage granted with work study stage crew! , it's a tricky logistic when the instrument is only used for a portion of the recital  program and is in the way  on stage for the remainder , so ideally  after tuning it on stage and in position the instrument should stay there or start the recital with repertoire using the fortepiano and then remove  it either upstage or backstage.

    Or, make sure only three of the fortepiano legs are actually contacting the floor at any time. Paul McNulty and I think Alan Eder spoke about this in Tucson.
