List friends-
After decades of doing Steinway back actions, ( mostly short arm teflon, for which I have made jigs that always work), I am duplicating one for a Mason A from the late 20's. I'm using Tokiwa, all has gone well, but I am distrusting my normal methods of locating the pivot pins. The original has glued flanges on top with a large projection from the bottom side of the tray. The flange distance from the treble end is quite large due to the treble spring location, making a simple measurement difficult and not super reliable , but the bass flange distance is almost minimal from the end of the tray to the flange. I have to say my weakness here has always been reliably measuring these positions and transferring them to the new tray. The original does not lend itself well to easy measurement, and my normal method of making some kind of transfer jig is difficult due to the large difference in tray configuration. Am I missing something here? What would be a reliable way to transfer measurements for pivot pin location? I could trim the treble end of the original tray to make measurement easier now that it is duplicated. Of course I will be confirming all positions in the piano with the original before drilling the replacement.
Grateful for your opinions-
