I am interested in a small survey of how your school's recital fee policy works or doesn't.
At the U of Oregon we have a regular recital fee which includes one piano with lid (it's important later), recording, use of the designated hall and ushers.
We have add ons to include live streaming, a second piano and lid removal and replacement. Our prepared piano instrument is extra also. There is no consideration for harpsichord and IMHO there should be. Many have tried to go the a la carte route to eliminate the recording but school policy dictates that all degree performances shall be recorded.
As we are having a "policy summit" in June I am interested in what you all might have to offer here. Right now we are struggling with one faculty member who considers the charge for the extra piano discriminatory since other musicians who are performing concerto work don't have to pay the extra fee. They have already paid for the their accompanying piano.
We currently have over thirty events scheduled before the close of the school year and graduation. The lid on/off has put quite the challenge into the mix along with the eight performance pianos that need to be maintained and in the right place at the right time.
Thanks for considering and I look forward to your responses.
