    Hi all,

I found this enneagram test yesterday. I've been hearing so much about enneagrams lately, so I thought I'd find out what type of personality I am.

https://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/test     (It takes about 15 minutes to complete.)

According to the test, I think I'm mostly a type 1, maybe a little of a type 5. It would be interesting to see if there is some kind of common denominator amongst piano technicians....

    Hi, Benjamin,

As with so much else, there's a good deal going on in Enneagram work and
    use.

If you're looking for some interesting reads on the subject, you might
look at anything by Helen Palmer, and/or, David Daniels (MD), and/or,
    Josephine Seccombe.

One on line source that is reliable is found at:

    https://www.enneagramworldwide.com

Feel free to contact me offline, if you wish.

    Kind regards.

    Horace

    Hi Horace,

Funny you mention Helen Palmer, as listening to an interview with her was what first introduced me to the subject. Seems interesting.

    So, what "type" are you?

    Benjamin,

Never heard of this. How do feel that it benefits you? Or perhaps I should ask: How is a person purported to benefit from this analysis?

    Hi Peter,

I guess it provides an outside perspective on your personality. The description that accompanied the results was almost completely accurate. It was, for me, fascinating to see how I'm wired, if you will. Yes, I know what I like and don't like, but again, it's an outside perspective that was helpful. I also have a paper somewhere that I will try and find later that talks about how best to work with different enneagram types.

Of course your mileage will vary, depending on how strongly you align to a given enneagram type. It would be interesting to see if there's a connection amongst piano technicians, say, most of us are the same type. Or it could be that there really is no connection, and we really are a bunch of weirdos who like pianos    ;-)

    Best,

In the first test I came out a 9. In the second one I came out a 5 with 9 just behind it. I feel I identify more with the 9. This is very similar to the Briggs Myers' Personality Test. In that one I'm an INTP.

I find these test to be interesting and affirming. For instance: An INTP tends to think internally. So, I'll be working on a plan in my head (my wife is not aware of this because I don't tell her...) and then I spring into action seemingly all at once when in reality I had been formulating a plan for quite a while. To her it seems very spur of the moment. So, I've learned to embrace that I think internally and that that's not a bad thing.

One thing to keep in mind with these things is that there is not a good or bad personality. My personality is an introvert, which, by the way, is not necessarily shy but it means that I tend to think internally. Think "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". I'll go into this internal world momentarily and those around me may wonder what's going on. Fortunately my wife is the same and gets it. She will also go internal and I wonder where she is. It's kinda funny... We both like and need more alone time that most people. We had thought that we were just weird or bad but learned that that's just the way we are and have embraced it.

Our country generally celebrates extroverts and thinks that introverts need to be "fixed" or "helped" to become an extrovert. That's nonsense but it can affect you and make you feel that you are flawed. In my opinion many times introverts try hard to be extroverted but end up not feeling well, maybe get a migraine headache, trying to be something they are not. So, I embrace that I'm an introvert and don't beat myself up for not being as social as some might think I should be. There's great freedom in understanding your personality and embracing it!

Scott, I am an INTP also.  Makes me wonder a bit about the personality types who find piano tuning satisfying.

I don't know if knowing personality types benefits anyone here. It very well could benefit people who might be considering entering the trade.
I am an INTP. I read Please Understand Me 2 by David Keirsey. Very informative about communication styles and other aspects of relationships between different Myers Briggs types. Keirsey is an INTP.
I had never knowingly met an INTP until a woman on a dating site wanted to meet me. She said in corporate interviews and hiring that used Myers Briggs, she was singled out. She had never met another INTP. Interesting.
I make the 3rd INTP in this post? Beats the odds.

Looking more at the methodology it looks like Astrology to me . . . ;-)

Perhaps there may be a Zodiacal commonality among piano technicians too . . .

I'm an Aquarian but perhaps that might explain why I'm a bit off the wall. . .

    Best wishes
