Let's see them try to outlaw gas powered motorcycles...boats, cars and airplanes... are next. Electric snow blowers are not up to the task around here.

how did they come up with 16 million lawn mowers and small gas engines ?  do they have a lawn mower registry ? i do many thousands of miles a year on the road owing to the nature of my service area across several counties. my neighbor bragged about his newly purchased electric vehicle that gets 200 miles to the charge. the novelty will wear off when he is running out of volts and the nearest charging station is one hundred miles away . he is the same guy who has gone through two battery powered mowers and now pushes a gas honda around

New technology will come around like composite piano parts are going to replace wood. Many products we use now will disappear real soon and piano techs need to understand new and old technology. Be a part of the solution.
First off,, look at how many years are left of oil on the planet at our present rate of use. 42 years from worldometer. For us old farts it won't matter and we are too old to learn new tricks. There's not enough of us left to make our complaints heard and we are going to die before we see the outcome,,, so why complain?
Second, certainly new technology will create a lightweight, clean burning motor that can power a snow blower. 2 strokes are simple and the factories that make them can do so until the gas runs out. That will max out profit for sure if allowed. Maybe a reburn exhaust like wood stoves have would take care of burning crude oil as fuel. The mix is a polluter
Alternative sources of energy are here if the oil companies would get out of the way.
Hydrogen fuel cells hybrid with electric. The only problem there, it will probably be a steam engine and water will become more expensive than gas. However a steam engine that reclaims it's vapors would be amazing. The power of steam is incredible.
Alcohol is easy to create. Maybe the problems with using it as fuel will be taken care of by technology.

Great Post, Keith! I still have my notes from 20 + years ago when we sat in a Modesto taqueria arguing over action geometry.

I embrace change if it is for the good of the whole (or better). Now I’ll attempt to return gently and gracefully back to the discussion of pianos which is what these threads are supposed to be about,
While I am recharging the batteries of my electric lawn mower, leaf blower, hedge trimmer and weed trimmer in their stations plugged into outlets providing power harnessed from the sun by my solar roof (my own Field of Dreams manifested), I think of why I still love to tune pianos and always will.
I have always loved the forests. A scientist recently developed technology where we can hear plants sing. I thought about that a lot after learning about it, and listening to them.
So with honor and respect, I tune the ghosts of trees; the Spruce, pine, hickory, maple, mahogany; so many who have come out of the forests that make up the instruments I approach. I tune for the ghosts of these trees so they can sing again. All in hopes their songs help others with their own Field of Dreams.
Its why I love to tune pianos.
