Memoir of a Brazilian piano technician who accompanied Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and a few other musicians on a concert tour of the interior of the state of São Paulo in 1931/32. The purpose was to take classical music to the people of Brazil, with unrealized plans to do the same in other states later on. They went down various rail lines from the hub of the city of São Paulo, giving concerts in over 100 small cities over the period of a year. This is a vivid, first-hand account filled with fascinating details.
