Sounds quite interesting. I have been examining and documenting an 1822/1823 Alpheus Babcock built for G D McKay and now in a museum in South Carolina. It is quite intact except that the keyframe at the top end is missing after key # 56. I believe it could be made playable with a number of repairs . We are trying to get the provenance of the instrument which was donated by a town resident who moved. I may write a PTG Journal article with pictures and a discussion about how I tracked down the instrument. I have found that the cabinet work is so good you would think it was made with modern saws, routers, planers and veneer equipment
