Hello all, I'm getting ready to hang a set of hammers on some WNG composite shanks. Does anybody have any alternative glues/ methods besides the thick CA glue recommended by WNG that work sufficiently for hanging hammers?

    Thanks!

Use the WNG glue. I plugged with a maple shank and titebond thick and redrilled a few hammers. Then I had to pull a couple and the wng glue was stronger than the titebond and my plug came out. Epoxy doesn't stick well to slick surfaces.

Oh and as a result of the plug coming out stuck to the shank, I found you can't use the shank sizing tool on the carbon fiber. I used the dremel to remove most of the plug from the shank and then a piece of sand paper. It wasn't easy to remove the wood from the shank so I could reuse the part.
It made a believer of me that I would have no problem with this glue.
I always buy a fresh tube

Hi all.  Thanks for the suggestions.  Ed, I had heard about the technique that you use and will be trying it in some tests. Thanks for clarifying how it's done!

Gregory, I had heard a similar rumor that WNG used to use  titebond molding and trim or quick n thick.  I tried it once and was able to break the bond too easily right away after a couple days of letting the glue dry.  But I didn't scuff sand the shank, so I just did another sample test.  Happy to hear that you've had success with it. Thanks for sharing!

I was considering epoxy, but not excited about it.  I was thinking that the bond would be too strong if I ever needed to rehang a hammer or 2.  For the people that use epoxy, do you scuff sand the shank as well?

Matteo, if you're looking for a glue that will give you more time for positioning, there is a CA glue that does that.

Weldwood Fast Curing Wood Adhesive has a 3 minute positioning time and cures in 30 minutes.
