I have my own bucket of that stuff. It seems to get more and more.
I will salvage a pre WWI Chicago or New England piano to get the wood and doing so, I get more.
The hard rock maple Pin Blocks are really Rock hard maple and the ones made in the Gable Piano Factory, such as Kohler and Chase, a west coast marketed piano,, even the rolled fallboards are maple. You can't buy wood like that. My mentor Dale Erwin said he got $600 worth of bridge cap material from one and that was 15 years ago. Don't just throw some of these old ones away. The end boards can be 5/4 oak under the veneer. Go to home depot and price that,,,
Cast iron breaks really easy with a sledge hammer. Dealing with the wire and tuning pins is the worst part.
