I am replacing the 88 individual felts on a set of whippens . The old felt was dirty/dust and concave from shanks bouncing against it. Looking to get ideas on the best glue to do the job that will not wick into the felt or dry and cause noise. I was thinking that some glue from a craft store like Michaels may be a good choice. I have PVCE, old brown glue, fish glue, white craft glue etc. Also the best way to apply like on the whippen wood first and then press the felt on ? Piano is a 1919 Mason & Hamlin Grand

I don't think noise will be a problem, nor wicking, as the dimension of these blocks is far greater than any wicking will cover.  Since I keep a fresh pot of hot hide glue going on the bench as I work my way through an action, I would just use a brush to lay a heavy coat of moderately thick glue on the wooden boss and press the felt on to it.  Maybe do every other one if they are still on the frame so you don't disturb the ones just glued, but there is no need for a clamp.  This works for me while gluing damper felts on the heads, just paint a coat of thick glue and press the felt on it and let it sit for 4 or five minutes.  you could probably do this with any wood glue, since it is doubtful that these felt blocks will ever be replaced again and permanence is no liability.
    Regards,

It probably doesn't matter. I'm not sure which felt you are referring to but hammer rest cushion felt is thick enough that nothing will wick all the way through but for this i use cold liquid hide glue.

So old brown glue or fish glue should be ideal. Fish glue starts setting quicker I think andbus plenty strong fir this application.
