    List

I lost my favorite capstan tool and need of replacing it.  I believe it was designed by Joe Scortino ( spelling?) and Pianotek was selling this tool for a number of years. Anyhow, I'm in need of another. Any idea who might be selling this wonderful tool. Schaff does not carry it, but does has a knock-off capstan, but it's poorly designed and not even close to this quality.

    Tom,

If you will post a description, I will see what I have in my
    backstock of used tools.

    Maestro Servinsky,

It looks like a pair of Channel Lock No. 718 pliers modified by grinding them off below the knurled portion and then drilling a 1/4" hole about 1/2" back from the new front. Channel Lock still makes the 718 and they sell for about $20. Get a new pair and take them to a machine shop with your photo and you'll probably be good to go.

    Karl

Like minds think alike. I actually had  just ordered a pair of Channel lock pliers with the intent of modifying the nose for my use.

    Steve,

I believe this one is intended for the tall  regulating buttons. I was wishing for a pair of these not long ago when my insert tool kept hitting the internal threaded rod on a couple of pianos. Arghhhh!

Peter, yes, you're right. I didn't quite get Tom's drift right away. Looking forward to his next report for the benefit of my knees.
