Hello everyone! (I'm new here so if this in the wrong community please let me know!)

I have an old Chickering quarter grand that I just moved to my house. It's been in my family for about 30 years but noone really knows anything about it…

From what I've read so far, they started making these in 1901. I also see a very similar one listed for sale that was built in 1915. Unfortunately, I can't find the serial number on mine and don't really have the expertise to do much else.

If anyone has some tips for me, please let me know! I am having it tuned in a couple weeks and figured a little more info would help.

You may find a serial number stamped into the soundboard in the high treble area. Typically serial numbers where stenciled on one of the plate struts in the bass area. There are other places it could be such as on the keyslip that is a strip of wood that goes under the keytop front.   One reliable place is the top of the  pedal lyre stamped into the wood  The hammer and whippen  flanges may be made of brass and the damper wires screw into the flanges Hopefully the pin block can have a good grip on the tunning pins

If tuning pins are original they may be tapered, permitting tightening with just a tap.
